Our Fly Caddy fly patch clips just about anywhere when you’re fishing. Hat, pocket, wader belt, pack. It goes where you go.
But what really sets it apart is what happens when you’re done fishing for the day.
Every Fly Caddy comes with a docking station you can stick onto just about any hard surface via outdoor rated adhesive backing. Clip it in, and now your flies have a home base. They dry out, stay put, and are right where you need them for the next session.
Here are a few spots we recommend to mount your docking station.
Inside Your Vehicle
This is probably the most underrated place to mount your docking station. And it's our favorite.
Think about how most days end. You’re tired, maybe a little sunburned, gear is scattered, and you just want to get moving. Having a docking station in your vehicle gives you a consistent place to stash your Fly Caddy the second you’re done.
A few go-to spots:
- Dashboard
- Flip-down visor mirror
- Side interior of your trunk, tailgate, etc.
It keeps your flies drying out, off the floor, and right where you’ll grab them next time. It also turns your vehicle into a sort of mobile rigging station without any extra effort.
Your Gear Box
If you’re running something like a YETI LoadOut box or any hard gear case, this one just makes sense.
Mount a docking station on the inside lid or along the side wall. Now your Fly Caddy lives with the rest of your essentials. Open the box, and everything is right there. No extra steps.
It’s especially useful if you bounce between spots or keep different setups ready to go. Grab the box, and you’re covered.
Your Cooler
Coolers already go everywhere with you, so why not make them do a little more work?
The side of a cooler or even the inside of the lid is a perfect place for a dock. It turns something you’re already carrying into another point of organization.
You end up with a simple system:
- Drinks and food inside
- Flies clipped and drying on the outside
It’s clean, efficient, and honestly just makes sense once you try it.
Waterproof Backpacks
If you’re fishing on foot, this is one of the best setups you can have.
Hard-shell or structured waterproof packs like a YETI Panga give you a solid surface to mount a dock. Place it somewhere easy to reach, and your Fly Caddy becomes part of your pack system instead of something separate.
You can unclip it while you’re fishing, then snap it back into place when you move. No digging into pockets or opening zippers.
It keeps you moving, which is kind of the whole point.
Your Paddleboard, Kayak, or Canoe
Space is limited on a paddleboard or kayak, so everything you bring with you needs a place and a purpose.
Adding a docking station to your paddleboard or kayak setup gives the Fly Caddy a fixed spot that won’t get in the way but is always accessible.
For paddleboarders, we recommend slapping the dock onto the deck of the board where it's easily accessible when a quick fly change is needed.
Kayakers would benefit from placing the dock on the interior of the shell to keep flies protected and safe in the kayak.
Skiff Center Console
If you’re running a skiff, this one is a no-brainer.
The center console is already your command center. Mount a docking station there and your Fly Caddy becomes part of the workflow.
Change flies, clip it back, and keep moving. No stepping on flies, no loose hooks, no clutter.
It also keeps things dialed in when you’ve got multiple anglers on board. Everyone knows where the flies go.
Build a Docking System
The best part about the Fly Caddy and docking station setup is that it’s not one-size-fits-all.
You can add docks wherever it makes sense for how you fish. Maybe that’s one in your truck and one on your pack. Maybe it’s a few spread across your gear so you’re always covered.
Once you get used to having a dedicated place to dock your Fly Caddy, it’s hard to go back. It’s one of those small upgrades that quietly makes every trip smoother.
And at the end of the day, that’s the goal. Less time managing gear, more time fishing.
