Why do you love fly fishing?
I have always been passionate about fishing, but the challenge fly fishing presented is what drew me in. It has taken me years to get comfortable with a fly rod, and I would still consider myself a novice. Each new destination presents new fish to target and challenges to face; it’s always a learning game.
How did you get started in the sport?
My brother was the first in my family to get into fly fishing. After watching him catch trout left and right on our trips to Yellowstone, I finally decided to give it a try. My first fish on the fly was a cutthroat out of the Snake River. I have been hooked ever since.
Where is your favorite place to fish and why?
My favorite place to currently fish is Lake Lanier; Fall and Winter are prime time to catch stripers on the fly. It’s amazing to me that I can catch a saltwater gamefish in a lake just 45 minutes from Atlanta.
What is your dream destination to fish?
I’m a huge fan of freshwater fishing, but I do have a soft spot for saltwater. A trip to Farquhar in the Seychelles would be an absolute dream. Wading in clear water, sight-fishing big bonefish, GTs, and triggers, all while surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery this world has to offer.
Why is the Atollas brand special to you?
Ever since I got into fly fishing, the variety of patterns, colors, and designs of the flies has always interested me. There’s nothing I love more than a clean and organized fly box, which is why I am a huge fan of Atollas. The variety of fly boxes offered provides some great options for fly storage. Whether you need a small box for your pocket or something larger for boat storage, Atollas has you covered.
What Atollas product(s) are in your everyday carry?
I currently use the 1GO Box and 2GO Box the most. Both serve as great specialty boxes for pond hopping and saltwater wading. I can’t wait for the new “3GO”! I have no doubt that it will be a great boat box.
Which one is your favorite and why?
My current favorite box is their 2GO Box, which I use as my saltwater box. It’s a great size for traveling and wading. Don’t let the size fool you; it can hold a wide variety of patterns. I also recently started using the “1GO” as my pond box; it’s the perfect size for holding flies to target bass, bluegill, and crappie.
