Patrick Hunter
Patrick Hunter lives on the coast of South Carolina. He is an environmental engineer working on water and wastewater infrastructure projects along the coast of South Carolina and into the midlands. He also freelances as an outdoor writer and content creator in the fly fishing and hunting industry.
Why do you love fly fishing?
I grew up hunting more than fishing, but when I discovered fly fishing in college, my hunting experience transferred over.
How did you get started in the sport?
I took a fly fishing leisure skill class in college, and I started tying flies as stress relief from my engineering studies. From there my hobby grew to an obsession.
Where is your favorite place to fish and why?
My favorite place to fly fish is the rivers around Columbia. There is opportunity to catch trout, striped bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, and various other warmwater species. These rivers are great to wade fish, kayak or canoe fish, or fish from a raft or drift boat.
What is your dream destination to fish?
I would love to fish in the Keys or Bahamas - I want to catch a bonefish on fly.
Why is the Atollas brand special to you?
Atollas is special to me because of the team behind the brand. Atollas makes products for the grab-and-go angler, there is no question, but the Atollas brand is more than just a useful product. Shea has been a good friend of mine for the past few years. We've been able to fish together, grab lunch to trade ideas, and support each other in the industry.
