Why do you love fly fishing?

Fly fishing is technical. It requires a lot of concentration but at the same time can be relaxing. It rewards you when you do it right and lets you know when you do it wrong. You have to be slow, quiet, close, and focused. You’re connected to it and I love everything about that.

How did you get started in the sport?

Fishing and archery hunting were my favorite activities during my childhood. So when I moved to Virginia and discovered hunting for redfish in shallow water, I had to pick up a fly rod. To me, it resembled the technical aspect of archery hunting.

Where is your favorite place to fish and why?

I think my favorite place to fish is here in Virginia. We have so much diversity that I can chase redfish on the flats in my backyard one day, and the next, I can drive 2.5 hours to catch brook trout in a tiny mountain stream.

What is your dream destination to fish?

My dream destination is anywhere that has bonefish and permit. They’re a blast. So I would have to say the Seychelles or somewhere similar.

Why is the Atollas brand special to you?

A small mom-and-pop style company with ingenuity and functional designs, what’s there not to love!

What Atollas product(s) are in your everyday carry?

My daily carry is the Fly Caddy XL but for longer days on the water, I’ll bring the 2GO Box with a Fly Caddy.

Which one is your favorite and why?

My favorite is the Fly Caddy XL. I really enjoy making fly fishing as simple as possible so a lot of the time I will only bring 2-3 flies with me. The Fly Caddy XL is perfect for that situation.
