Vincent Mastrocola
Vincent Mastrocola lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally from Northeast Ohio, he grew up with a fishing rod in hand and spending most of his time outside fishing, adventuring through the woods and playing sports. He's currently the Fishing Manager of the Orvis Charlotte location.
Why do you love fly fishing?
I love fly fishing because it is quite literally river therapy. It gives me time to clear my head and escape the norm for a while. All I am thinking of when I am out is how I can piece the puzzle together and figure the fish out. Not to mention fly fishing takes me to some of the most beautiful places.
How did you get started in the sport?
I got started fly fishing in Northeast Ohio steelhead fishing. My friend and I always used spinning gear until he got into fly fishing and showed me the ropes. I then purchased a combo of my own and haven't looked back!
Where is your favorite place to fish and why?
My favorite place to fish would have to be the Northeast Ohio region that I am from because of the nostalgia it brings me and the diversity of fish species I can target. Lake Erie run steelhead and smallmouth bass are by far my favorite species to chase with a fly rod.
What is your dream destination to fish?
I have many dream destinations I want to fish but if I had to choose one I would have to go with Iceland. Fly fishing for Atlantic salmon, giant brown trout and arctic char sounds like an absolute dream. Also the out of this world landscape out there is another attractive feature of a trip like this.

My Atolllas products I use on a daily basis include the Micro Box, 1GO Box and 2GO Box.
Which one is your favorite and why?
I especially love the Micro Box since I am an overpacker. I use this fly box as my confidence box where I have 3 of each of my favorite patterns and I am good to go on a day trip with one box clipped to my belt or in my pocket. The 1GO boxes are great for a bigger dry fly or nymph selection and I use the 2GO boxes for bulkier saltwater flies and big streamers.
